Happy Holidays Mets fans. OTTO IS BACK IN THE BIG APPLE! The Mets have re-signed RP Adam Ottavino to a two-year deal worth $15 million. I will also touch upon why Mets fans are so disappointed with how Jacob deGrom exited New York. This is CURVEBALL.
Hello Mets fans. I am Caden Philip and we are back with blog #7.
Adam Ottavino will re-join a stacked bullpen. The Mets top 4 arms out of the pen are Brooks Raley, David Robertson, Edwin Diaz, and now Adam Ottavino. Last year Ottovino had a career year posting a 2.06 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and finished 19 games for the Mets. He will probably pitch the 7th or the 8th inning for the Mets in 2023.
Jacob deGrom is gone. As an aspiring pitcher, it was really tough to see my favorite baseball player since I was 6 years old in a Rangers jersey. Fans on social media are disappointed deGrom never gave an official goodbye to the Mets and the fans. The closest thing to a goodbye was when deGrom said this in his press conference “There will always be a special place in my heart for the New York Mets and their fans.” Is this disappointment justified? No. deGrom is a simple man. His walk-out song is quite literally Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” deGrom has no presence on social media. He does not have a Twitter or an Instagram account. Most players make these “Goodbye to all the great fans of whatever team” on their social media page.
This is also part of the reason deGrom does not get publicity from Major League Baseball. If a player has a lesser media presence, the professional sports leagues will not promote that player. Why does Ronald Acuna or a Giannis Antetokounmpo get publicity? They have a strong media presence. deGrom on the other hand lives a private life with no internet or social media platform.
That will do it for this edition of Curveball. I hope you enjoyed. I am Caden Philip. LET’S GO METS!
